French Secretary General for Defence and National Security Nicolas Roche met with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on September 22, 2026, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
French Ambassador to Pakistan Jean-Noël Poirier also attended the meeting.
Pakistan and France discuss defence cooperation
The officials discussed matters of mutual interest. Regional security and cooperation between Pakistan and France in defence and security were also discussed.
Field Marshal Asim Munir said that Pakistan remains committed to strengthening its relations with France. He also expressed support for further cooperation in defence and security.
Nicolas Roche appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the region. He also said France is interested in expanding cooperation with Pakistan in areas of mutual interest.
Recently, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held several high-level meetings during his official visit to Türkiye, as per the ISPR.
In Istanbul, Field Marshal Asim Munir separately met Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
He also held meetings with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Defence Minister Yaşar Güler and Chief of the Turkish General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu.
The officials discussed matters of mutual interest, defence cooperation and the regional security situation.
Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia discuss defence ties
Field Marshal Asim Munir also attended a meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee under the Makkah Agreement for Joint Defence.
The meeting was attended by representatives from Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia.
The three countries discussed ways to improve strategic coordination and strengthen defence cooperation.
The meetings reflected the close relations between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. They also focused on further cooperation in defence and strategic matters.
