The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a rain and flood alert across Pakistan, saying that several areas will witness rain until September 30.
Rain is expected in several parts of Pakistan over the coming days as a western weather system is forecast to become stronger, according to the Meteorological Department.
The weather system is likely to bring rain to upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Islamabad. Some areas could receive heavy rainfall, with hail also possible in places.
Rain has also been forecast for Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Murree, among other areas.
Authorities have warned of possible flooding in low-lying areas following heavy rain. There is also a risk of sudden rises in water levels in streams and seasonal waterways in mountainous areas.
People travelling through mountainous regions have been advised to exercise caution and avoid going near streams and other waterways during periods of heavy rain.
The rainfall is expected to bring a drop in temperatures and a change in weather conditions across several parts of the country.
Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of severe weather and to follow instructions issued by local administrations and emergency services.
The Meteorological Department says the area affected by the rainfall could expand if the western weather system strengthens further over the coming days. Residents have been advised to monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings.
