Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has set the proposed wheat support price for 2027 at Rs4,500 per 40 kilograms, an increase of Rs1,000 over the previous year, to provide relief to farmers amid rising production costs and inflation.

According to the announcement, the decision was taken after consultations with Nawaz Sharif and the chief ministers of Punjab and Sindh, with the aim of supporting farmers and strengthening the country’s agricultural sector.

The prime minister thanked Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah for their cooperation during the consultation process. He said the increase was intended to help farmers meet production expenses, improve their earnings and encourage greater wheat cultivation in the upcoming season.

Shehbaz Sharif noted that farmers had faced financial challenges due to inflation and that Pakistan had imported wheat over the past two years. He said the proposed price would help strengthen national food security by encouraging domestic production and reducing reliance on imported wheat.

The government expects the revised price to provide an incentive for farmers to expand wheat cultivation and contribute to the country’s agricultural output.
