ISLAMABAD: As soon as the sun went down, a major traffic rush was witnessed at the major roads and market places in Islamabad on New Year’s eve
Large number of people came out with their families and friends to celebrate the last night of this year and major roads of the capital Jinnah Avenue, Islamabad expressway, Faizabad experienced great traffic jam.
Despite a traffic plan in place by the Islamabad traffic police, the traffic could not be controlled.
Great rush was also witnessed at market places and malls such as Jinnah Super, Super Market, Centarus mall and F-10 markaz.
Islamabad Traffic Police have finalised a traffic plan for New Year’s Eve to ensure smooth flow and public safety in the capital.
More than 350 traffic officers will be deployed from 7pm to 3am. Entry of heavy vehicles into Islamabad will remain suspended during these hours.
Traffic pressure is expected on major roads due to celebrations. These include Express Highway, Jinnah Avenue, Srinagar Highway and Murree Road. Congestion is also likely at Zero Point, Khanna and PWD Underpass.
Eight special squads have been formed to control violation, which includes wheelies, rash driving, skidding and underage driving.
