Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan got a big relief from a local court in Islamabad.
As per details, a district and sessions court in Islamabad directed the prosecution to ensure the appearance of Imran Khan at the next hearing either in person or through a video link.
The court announced a big relief and extended the pre-arrest bail of PTI founder in five cases, including the attempted murder of ex-minister Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha.
The Judge Afzal Majoka also ordered to bar police from arresting Imran Khan in the mentioned cases and also extended the pre-arrest bail of Bushra Bibi in one related matter.
Supreme Court hearing Imran Khan’s cases
On the other hand, the Supreme Court of Pakistan is hearing the cases of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.
As per details, the top court had announced Imran Khan’s six cases will be heard on February 18 (today), along with the cases of Bushra Bibi and Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
A three-member bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Hashim Kakar, will hear the cases. The bench will also include Justice Salahuddin Panhwar and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim.
The cases scheduled for February 18 include pleas against the Islamabad High Court’s decision to suspend the sentence in the Toshakhana criminal case, as well as appeals filed by the Punjab government challenging the bail of PTI founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
Supreme Court grants big relief to Imran Khan
The Supreme Court of Pakistan earlier granted a big relief to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The top court ordered that Imran Khan be given access to specialist eye doctors, stating that a formal eye examination be conducted by a medical team before February 16.
The Supreme Court bench also ordered that the ex-PM should be provided the facility to talk to his sons, Kasim Khan and Sulaiman Khan, over the phone.
Salman Safdar on Imran Khan’s health
Imran Khan’s lawyer Salman Safdar said that his client is in perfect health adding that he will submit a complete report regarding his meeting with the Supreme Court
After meeting with Imran Khan on the orders of the Supreme Court Salman Safdar said, full access was provided to Imran Khan and that a detailed meeting was held.
He added that the meeting lasted for approximately three hours, indicating that there were no restrictions or obstacles.
The lawyer said it would not be appropriate to share further details before submitting a report to the Supreme Court. However, he clarified that Imran Khan’s health is completely fine.
Supreme Court orders to arrange Imran Khan’s meeting
Prior to this, the Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered to arrange meeting between PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan with his lawyer.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan ordered Barrister Salman Safdar to visit the former prime minister in Adiala Jail as a “friend of the court.”
The bench mentioned the need for a fresh report on Imran Khan’s living conditions in prison, saying that a previous directive from the court’s order dated August 24, 2023, when Khan was detained in Attock Jail, required submission of such a report, which remains relevant.
The court observed that it would be appropriate to obtain an updated report regarding Imran Khan’s living conditions in Adiala Jail.
Barrister Salman Safdar, designated as friend of the court, was granted access to Imran Khan in jail, including “jail break” facilities, to enable him to submit a written response.
