Putin reaches China for a two-day visit

Russian President Vladimir Putin reached Beijing on Tuesday night for high-level talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, just days after U.S. President Donald Trump concluded his visit to China.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi welcomed Putin at the airport, where an honour guard and groups of young people waving Russian and Chinese flags greeted the Russian president.

Putin’s two-day visit has drawn international attention as China balances its relations with both Washington and Moscow. Analysts believe the meetings could shape future regional and global cooperation between the two countries.

The Kremlin said Putin and Xi are expected to discuss trade, economic partnership, and several major international and regional developments.

The visit also comes as China and Russia mark 25 years of the friendship treaty signed between the two countries in 2001.
