SSGC announces temporary gas shutdown in THESE Karachi areas

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a temporary suspension of gas supply in several areas of Karachi, according to the latest reports today. This is expected due to pipeline relocation work near Nipa Flyover for the Bus Rapid Transit project being carried out by TransKarachi.

According to the company, the work is part of the second phase of shifting a 20 inch high pressure gas pipeline to support ongoing BRT infrastructure development in the city.

The gas shutdown will take place between the night of Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24, 2026.

The main shutdown period will remain from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM. However, the operation may continue until 8:00 AM because of technical work.

SSGC has said that the gas supply will be restored immediately after the completion of maintenance work.

The affected areas include Gulshan e Iqbal, PIB Colony, Jamshed Road, Lines Area, PHS Society, Saddar, parts of Kharadar, Lyari, Garden, and nearby neighbourhoods.

Consumers in the SITE Industrial Area may also face low gas pressure during the maintenance period.

The utility company said some important institutions may also experience temporary disruption. These include Aga Khan University Hospital, Liaquat National Hospital, and Karachi Central Prison.

SSGC has also said that special arrangements have been made to reduce inconvenience for consumers.

Monitoring teams will also supervise the restoration process and help normalise gas pressure after the work is completed.

The company added that consumers will be informed once the regular gas supply is fully restored.
