Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has finalised its training camps ahead of international assignments, and ODI captain Shaheen Afridi was not part of the Pakistan Test squad setup.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has invited 49 players to attend training camps in Lahore at the National Cricket Academy.
Of these, 22 players have been chosen for the red-ball (Test) camp while 27 players will be present for the white-ball (ODI and T20) camp.
The white-ball camp runs until September 18, while the red-ball camp will run until July 10. A special camp for the West Indies visit is likely to start on July 15.
Details suggest Shaheen was only included in the white-ball category and will head to the ODI camp and T20 camp on June 15.
However, his name has not featured in the preparations for the Test team by the internal cricketing think tank of PCB, effectively putting him on the bench for the longer format squad for the time being.
The 26-year-old left arm pacer made his debut in Test cricket against New Zealand in December 2017 at Abu Dhabi and has played in 34 Tests.
So far in his career, he has bowled 1114 overs and claimed 126 wickets conceding 3545 runs.
He last played a Test match against Bangladesh in Mirpur in May, 2026, when Pakistan was bowled out by 104 runs.
In that game, Shaheen had a 3/113 and 2/54 result in the first and second innings respectively.
The following match he was dropped for the second Test in Sylhet and Khurram Shahzad took over.
In Bangladesh series, questions were raised about his slow bowling pace as his speed had dropped from 140+ km/h to 134 km/h.
PCB officials are also said to have raised issues about his limited involvement in first-class cricket as they feel regular first-class cricket is crucial for him to improve his Test performance.
