The polling process for government employees performing election duties in the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) General Elections 2026 was held on Monday across the region, except in Rawalakot and Sudhnuti districts.
According to officials, the polling recorded an 80 per cent voter turnout. This is significantly higher than the 60 per cent turnout that was recorded during the previous elections.
The polling process remained peaceful and was completed without any untoward incident, according to the reports today.
Officials also said that the polling staff are being paid an election duty honorarium of Rs5,550 each.
They added that the successful completion of this phase marks an important first step in the election process. They also add that this sets the stage for the upcoming General Elections 2026.
AJK Election Commission completes arrangements
The AJK Election Commission has completed all preparations for the upcoming general elections, according to recent reports. Polling for all 45 seats of the AJK Legislative Assembly will be held on July 27, 2026.
The Election Commission said that it has made all necessary arrangements to ensure the elections are peaceful, fair and transparent.
A total of 846 candidates are contesting the elections. There are 3,804,368 registered voters. These include 2,001,653 men and 1,802,715 women.
Out of the 45 seats, 33 are for residents of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. And 12 are reserved for refugees who are living in Pakistan.
To help the voters, the Election Commission has set up 6,983 polling stations and 10,913 polling booths across the region.
Officials also said that all the preparations have been completed and the election process is ready to begin.
