The Dairy and Cattle Farmers Association has sought a Rs100 per litre increase in the price of milk, which would raise the retail rate to Rs340 per litre if approved.
According to details, the association has formally requested the Karachi commissioner to revise milk prices, arguing that rising production costs have made it impossible for dairy farmers to continue selling milk at the current rate.
In a letter addressed to the commissioner, Association President Mubashir Qadeer Abbasi said that the continuous increase in fuel prices, electricity tariffs, animal feed, and other production expenses has placed a heavy financial burden on dairy farmers.
The association has urged the commissioner to convene an emergency meeting within 48 hours to discuss the issue and take immediate steps to address the financial challenges facing the dairy sector.
The letter warned that if milk prices are not adjusted in line with the actual cost of production, the dairy industry could face even greater economic difficulties.
However, it is important to note that this is only a request by dairy farmers. Any increase in milk prices will take effect only after approval by the relevant authorities.

Earlier, the prices of milk and yogurt had increased in the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Peshawar.
The district administration in Peshawar has increased the official prices of milk and yogurt across the city, adding to household expenses ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Under the revised rates, buffalo milk will now be sold at Rs260 per litre, while cow milk has been fixed at Rs240 per litre. The official price of yogurt has been set at Rs280 per kilogram.
Authorities have directed dairy shops and milk sellers to display the updated price lists prominently at their outlets so that customers can easily verify the approved rates.
