A shocking case emerged from Ichhra, Lahore, yesterday, where three young children were found murdered inside their home.
In the latest developments, police said that the children’s mother, Rida, has confessed to killing them during questioning.
Investigators said that her behaviour seemed suspicious from the early stages of the case. There is evidence and witness statements that were later used to build a strong case against her, reports say.
Updates in Ichra incident
According to the details shared by the police, Rida was in contact with a man named Shehryar, who is reported to be a resident of Jhang.
Call data records showed that they were regularly in touch. Reports say that the accused also had asked him for money through a mobile app.
Police believe that she wanted to divorce her husband, Ramzan, and marry Shehryar. They said the children became an obstacle, which led to the crime.
Police teams have been sent to Jhang to arrest Shehryar, reports add. Meanwhile, Rida’s husband, Ramzan, has been released after the investigation found no evidence against him so far.
Police added that the mother appears to be the only person responsible at this stage. But further arrests could be made if new evidence emerges.
Ichra murder case
The victims were identified as five-year-old Momina Batool, four-year-old Momin Raza, and one-and-a-half-year-old Um Habiba. Their bodies were found a few days ago in their house in Ichhra.
Initially, police had taken the mother, father, and an uncle into custody on suspicion. Sources said a domestic argument the night before may have been a possible reason behind the incident.
It was also reported that the knife used in the crime had been purchased by the mother a day earlier.
Police believe the crime may have been planned. After the incident, the suspect allegedly tried to mislead investigators.
She reportedly left the house on the excuse of a medical visit and later contacted her husband. When she returned, she tried to create confusion to avoid suspicion.
Investigators also said there were attempts to blame the mother-in-law. Police believe this was done to mislead the investigation.
Authorities said the case is still under investigation. More evidence is being collected to fully understand what happened.
