Lahore opens scooty driving school for women

The Lahore Traffic Police has now established a new scooty driving school for women at Liberty Market in Lahore.

The driving school is part of the Punjab government’s Women on Wheels initiative.

It has been launched to boost the confidence of young women by providing them with professional training for scooty driving.

On the occasion, the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi stated that the school will follow a women to women service model.

It will include female instructors to guide young women in a safe environment.

The CTO stated that Lahore Traffic Police has trained over 7,000 women in driving cars and riding scooters at different centers throughout the city.

With the new facility at Liberty Market, there are now 12 driving schools for women.

CTO Shirazi also mentioned that the training includes not just practical driving skills but also basic electrical and mechanical knowledge.

This will allow participants to perform routine maintenance and address minor vehicle issues.

He also noted that all driving schools come with modern amenities to provide quality training and a safe learning environment.

Officials believe that offering free scooter riding lessons will empower women to travel independently.

The new scooty driving school in Lahore will also reduce their dependence on public transport, and improve their access to jobs and educational institutions.

Lahore Traffic Police has further encouraged interested women to sign up at any designated driving school in the city.

Heavy bikes banned in Lahore

Earlier, Lahore banned heavy bikes from the CBD Main Boulevard, Gulberg.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore said that the boulevard is a no-go area for heavy bikers.

This aims to prevent groups of riders from using the road for racing.

It is pertinent to mention that this decision was taken following complaints about street racing, excessive noise, and dangerous riding from residents of the surrounding areas.

The CTO also urged parents to monitor young motorcyclists and discourage them from taking part in racing and one-wheeling.
