Star leg-spinner Rashid refuses citizenship offers, commits to Afghanistan

Star leg-spinner Rashid refuses citizenship offers

Afghanistan’s star leg-spinner Rashid Khan has revealed that he turned down offers of citizenship and the chance to play international cricket for India and Australia, choosing instead to remain loyal to his homeland.

Speaking about the incident, Rashid shared that in 2023, an influential figure encouraged him to leave Afghanistan, relocate to India, and continue his cricket career there. However, the Afghan cricketer rejected the suggestion, making it clear that he is committed to representing Afghanistan on the global stage.

Rashid emphasised that his priority has always been his country, reaffirming his dedication to Afghan cricket despite receiving multiple offers in the past.

He added that he had received similar offers before, but his position has always been clear: if he does not play for Afghanistan, he will not play for any other country. Calling his decision an act of loyalty, Rashid Khan emphasised that Afghanistan will always be his priority.

It is worth mentioning here that one of the finest T20 bowlers in modern cricket and Afghanistan’s most iconic sporting figure, Rashid Khan, has become a symbol of hope and inspiration for his nation through his remarkable rise.

Redefining leg-spin for the modern game with flair and confidence, Rashid relies heavily on his deceptive googly, often using it more than the traditional leg break. He has honed it into a potent and dependable weapon, delivering it with subtlety that keeps batters guessing.

Inspired by Shahid Afridi during his formative years, Rashid mirrors Afridi’s attacking approach, bowling fast, flat, and targeting the stumps. His technique leans more on finger action than wrist work, which reduces a batter’s reaction time and makes it difficult to advance down the pitch.
