The Mass Transit Authority (MTA) has ended the use of the old token and card payment system on Lahore’s Orange Line Train, Speedo buses, and Metro Bus services. The authority has introduced new digital payment options for passengers replacing old system.
This decision was confirmed by MTA incharge Uzair Shah in an official statement. Shah stated that passengers will no longer be able to use the old tokens or cards on transport Orange Line Train, Speedo buses, and Metro Bus services. Instead, commuters can now pay using T-Cash cards, mobile app, or ATM, and bank cards.
Passengers still having unused old cards have been advised to submit them to their nearest transit station to claim their refundable security deposit. However, several passengers stated that old cards were still being topped up with money, although authorities announced the discontinuation of old payment method.
Details for passengers:
- Any unused amount left on old cards will not be refunded
- The Rs130 security deposit paid at the time of card issuance is refundable after returning the card to a transit station
- New payment methods include T-Cash cards, ATM cards and mobile applications will now be accepted for travel according to new approval
