The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced new regulations for the issuance of Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs), easing the process for first-time applicants.
Under the updated policy, signatures will no longer be mandatory for individuals applying for a CNIC for the first time. In cases where an applicant does not provide a signature, “NA” will be mentioned in the signature section of the identity card.
NADRA clarified that no thumb impression or substitute mark will be printed on the CNIC in place of a signature. Officials added that thumbprint images would also not be used due to concerns related to forgery and misuse.
A spokesperson said the authority has started an awareness campaign for illiterate citizens and people who are unable to sign documents.
Applicants using NADRA’s mobile application have also been advised not to upload thumbprint images while submitting their applications.
The authority further stated that any future addition or modification of a signature on a CNIC would require a formal correction request.
According to NADRA, the revised measures are intended to improve transparency while making the identity card issuance process more secure and user-friendly.
Big update by NADRA for pensioners
A NADRA-linked mobile verification system for pensioners is being prepared to be launched by the federal government of Pakistan.
The officials are describing this as a major step to be launched by the federal government of Pakistan.
Under the proposed system National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) will disburse the pension through biometric and facial recognition checks conducted by NADRA.
It was revealed by the officials familiar with the plan that around 1.7 million pensioners could eventually become part of the digital verification framework.
How does the new system work?
Pensioners under the new mechanism would confirm their proof of life status by using the Pak ID mobile application which is operated by NADRA.
After this through NADRA-integrated systems commercial banks will then authenticate pension eligibility before monthly pensions are released.
Sources also revealed that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will be directing all commercial banks to integrate their infrastructure with NADRA’s verification platforms. This will enable automated pension validation nationwide.
