The sister of former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, Noreen Niazi, has been accused of violating the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). The case was filed in Islamabad under Sections 20 and 26-A of the PECA law.
The First Information Report (FIR) claimed that Noreen Niazi has made baseless and false allegations against Pakistan and its armed forces in public.
Her comments aimed to discredit public trust in state authorities, incite panic and mislead the public, authorities say.

The FIR also says Noreen Niazi was spreading false, provocative, insulting and threatening content.
According to investigators, she was involved in “organised propaganda” activities against the state institutions and security agencies via digital platforms, which is considered a violation of the country’s cybercrime law.
A case against Noreen Niazi was earlier filed by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Authority (NCCIA), which had summoned Niazi for her controversial comments about the state and the armed forces.
But she had not turned up on the day appointed before the authority. Rather, her attorney provided a written response for her.
The controversy also sparked a reaction from the PTI leadership. Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the Chairman of the party, pointed out that Noreen Niazi’s comments were not in line with the official policy or position of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Attaullah Tarar, the minister of federal information, had earlier strongly condemned Niazi’s remarks, declaring that they were “unforgivable” and that there should be no leniency in the issue.
