Pakistan is set to export 5,000 locally assembled MG cars to Bangladesh.
As per the officials, it will be the country’s first large-scale passenger vehicle export agreement.
The deal was signed between MG Motors Pakistan and Bangladesh-based RANGS Motors Limited, with the announcement made in Islamabad by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan.
Mr Khan said the agreement marked an important step for Pakistan’s automotive industry and supported the government’s ambition to develop the country into a regional manufacturing and export hub.
The vehicles will be assembled in Pakistan before being shipped to Bangladesh.
RANGS Motors Managing Director Romo Rouf Chowdhury said the agreement would strengthen trade ties between the two countries and pointed to growing demand for vehicles in Bangladesh.
MG Pakistan Chief Executive Shao Jian Qiang said long-term growth in the automotive sector depended on policies that encouraged local manufacturing and investment.
The agreement comes as Pakistan seeks to expand its industrial base and increase exports. Officials say 17 automobile manufacturers are currently assembling vehicles in the country, while the government is also promoting electric vehicle production and local battery manufacturing.
The export deal is expected to generate foreign exchange earnings and could encourage other manufacturers operating in Pakistan to explore regional export markets.
