Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Chaudhry Abdullah Tahir was shot dead in Lahore while reportedly visiting a private clinic in Gulberg for a routine medical check-up.
The active PTI leader was killed in a targeted attack, while Dr Riaz Khan was also injured in the firing.
Family members and relatives confirmed his death, saying that Chaudhry Abdullah Tahir had left his residence in Gulberg to go to the clinic when unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants, who were lying in wait, opened indiscriminate fire on him.
He sustained critical injuries in the attack and later succumbed to his wounds.
Chaudhry Abdullah Tahir was considered a prominent political figure from Okara. He had also contested the 2018 general elections for a provincial assembly seat on a PTI ticket.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify the attackers and determine the motive behind the killing. Forensic experts have also collected evidence from the crime scene.
