Treating state cars like personal property? PTI leaders face criminal action

Former provincial minister Riaz Khan and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MP Abdul Kabir Khan are facing cases for not returning government vehicles in Buner district.

As per details two cases were lodged against the former minister and the lawmaker under Section 409 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) under which criminal breach of trust by a public servant or a person entrusted with property is punishable.

Based on the information released, the cases were registered on October 12, 2026.

FIR No. 644 was registered against Riaz Khan at Pir Baba Police Station, the first information report (FIR). FIR No.542 was registered against Abdul Kabir Khan at the Nawagai Police Station meanwhile.

The registrations come after a controversy over the vehicles reportedly in the custody of the two PTI leaders that were handed over to the government. Registration of a case, however, does not presume guilt and the allegations are subject to investigation and legal action.

In the third case, a separate list of government vehicles contains three vehicles linked to PTI lawmakers and politicians from the district.

These include a white Toyota Grande, said to be owned by MPA Fakhr Jahan, a black Toyota Revo double-cabin pickup, which was owned by Abdul Kabir Khan, and a white Honda Civic, which was owned by Riaz Khan, the former provincial minister.

The cases serve to remind the public of the problem of government vehicles and the accountability of public officials in returning government property when it is called for.

Additional details of the investigation, the status of the vehicles and any response from the persons involved in the cases were not immediately available.
