The United States (US) President Donald Trump, on Friday, threatened a 100% tariff on countries in Europe that impose a digital services tax on American companies.
The development comes only a day after European Union (EU) countries met Trump’s deadline to reduce tariffs on US goods.
In a social media post, the US President shared, “Please let this statement serve to represent that any Country that imposes such a Tax will immediately be met with a 100% TARIFF on any and all Goods sent to the United States of America.”
Trump also confirmed that this new tariff would replace any trade deals whether they are implemented, signed or not, between Europe and the United States.
Earlier, the US President threatened to reimpose a 25% tariff on imports from Europe.
The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has previously said that his country would not bow down to pressure from Trump to remove the digital tax on US tech companies.
