The federal government has approved a 35 per cent increase in the salaries of university teachers who are working under the Tenure Track System (TTS), according to reports on Friday. The new pay package has taken effect from July 1, 2026.
According to an office memorandum issued by the Ministry of Finance today, the federal cabinet has approved the revised TTS Pay Package 2026.
The decision comes after the approval by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Additionally, it includes revised salary scales for professors, associate professors, and assistant professors.
Under the new pay package, the minimum salary of a TTS professor has increased from Rs394,875 to Rs407,230.
The annual increment has gone up from Rs19,305 to Rs20,320. The maximum salary has increased from Rs684,450 to Rs712,030.
For associate professors, the minimum salary has increased from Rs263,250 to Rs370,810. The annual increment has risen from Rs15,356 to Rs18,320. The maximum salary has been increased from Rs493,590 to Rs645,610.
The minimum salary for assistant professors has increased from Rs75,500 to Rs288,020. The annual increment has gone up from Rs12,065 to Rs17,720. The maximum salary has increased from Rs356,475 to Rs553,820.
The memorandum says that teachers who were working under the TTS on June 30, 2026, will be moved to the new pay scale at the same stage they were already placed in.
The Ministry of Finance also said that universities will pay the extra cost from their own funds. The federal government will not provide any additional financial support for the revised salaries.

The Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice has directed the government to increase the salaries of federal law officers, according to reports on Thursday.
The decision was made during a meeting of the committee after members discussed the difference in salaries between federal and provincial law officers.
The committee chairman asked the relevant authorities to revise the salaries of federal law officers.
