The second and final solar eclipse of 2026 will take place on August 12 and will be a total solar eclipse, offering a rare celestial spectacle to people in parts of Europe and Africa.
The total eclipse will be visible from Greenland, Iceland, northern Spain and a small part of Portugal. People in several other regions across Europe and Africa will be able to witness the event as a partial solar eclipse.
However, the eclipse will not be visible in Pakistan because it will occur during nighttime in the country.
According to the expected timings in Pakistan, the partial phase of the eclipse will begin at 10:34pm. The total eclipse will start at 12:12am, while the event is expected to end at 2:58am.
A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, completely blocking the Sun’s visible surface for observers located along the path of totality.
Astronomy enthusiasts in areas where the eclipse will be visible are advised to use certified solar viewing glasses and avoid looking directly at the Sun without proper eye protection.
