The Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) has ordered the blocking of the Chief Minister (CM) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Sohail Afridi’s passport on Monday. The ATC has also ordered the blocking of passports of 24 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) MNA’s and MPA’s.
ATC Judge Abu Alhasnat issued the order on a request from the investigation officer in a case registered at Kohsar Police Station.
The investigation officer said to the court that the accused lawmakers could leave the country and avoid the investigation if their passports were not blocked.
The court then approved it and directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to take action against the passports of the lawmakers named in the case.
Those named in the case include former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser, Shah Ahad, Mian Omar and Ajab Gul.
The ATC has also ordered the blocking of the passports of Shahram Tarakai, Junaid Akbar, Shahid Khattak, Babar Saleem, Yar Wazir, Shah Ahad, Sher Ali Arbab, Iqbal Afridi, and Dr Amjad.
The list also includes the names of PTI leaders Arshad Omarzai, Zar Alam, Mian Umar, Akhtar Khan, Humayun Khan, Riaz Khan, Abdul Kabir Khan, Tufail Anjum, Asif Mehsud, Muhammad Usman, Irfan Saleem, Advocate Ali Zaman, and Malik Shahab.
The court’s order states that, according to the available record, the accused are named in this case.
ATC issues arrest warrants for KP CM Sohail Afridi, 3 PTI lawmakers
Previously, an ATC in Islamabad had upheld the arrest warrants against KP CM Sohail Afridi, Junaid Akbar, Abdul Ghani Afridi and others in the November 26 protest case.
The court had rejected their requests for exemption from appearing in person.
Meanwhile, an ATC in Islamabad prior to that issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Sohail Afridi and three PTI lawmakers.
The warrants were issued against Meena Khan Afridi, Shahid Khattak and Shafi Jan. The four are accused in Case No. 975/24 registered at Ramna Police Station.
The court ordered the Station House Officer (SHO) of Ramna Police Station to arrest the four accused and present them before the court.
The case includes serious charges, including terrorism.
The court had also directed the police to carry out the warrants and arrest all four accused. Further developments are also expected at the next hearing.
