Director General Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa has ordered officials to speed up the rollout of the new passport application.
He chaired a meeting with all zonal heads to review security and other arrangements at passport offices.
The DG directed officials to improve security measures at all offices. The purpose is to keep both the public and staff safe.
How will the IT system be upgraded?
Randhawa also ordered all field offices to upgrade their IT systems. He asked officials to complete the rollout of the new passport application as soon as possible.
He also directed officials to install a dual-screen system at all passport data entry counters.
The system will allow applicants to see their personal information on a second screen.
They will be able to check the details and correct any mistakes before the information is submitted.
Focus on safer passport offices
The DG also called for better safety arrangements at passport offices. He said offices should have clear entry and exit points and proper emergency measures.
Officials were told to make passport offices safer and more organised for both visitors and staff.
Randhawa directed all concerned officials to ensure the new measures are properly implemented.
He said the goal is to provide passport services that are safer, clearer and more efficient for the public.
What are the new passport office timings in Pakistan?
According to a notification regarding the new passport office timings, the offices will remain open from 8 AM to midnight. They will be open from Monday to Friday.
The first shift will run from 8 AM to 4 PM, and the second shift will operate from 4 PM to 12 AM.
The new double-shift system came into effect on August 20, 2026.
The purpose of this is to provide citizens with more time to access passport-related services and thus make the process easier for them.
