The government may stop the daily petroleum price revision system after reaching an agreement with fuel dealers, according to some media reports on Friday. The development came after the dealers called off their planned nationwide strike after assurances from the government.
Pakistan daily petrol price change
According to the Petroleum Dealers Association, the government has agreed to review the system of changing petrol and diesel prices every day.
It also promised to prepare a report on the profit margin of petrol dealers within 15 days, as per the report.
Petroleum Dealers Association President Humayun Khan announced that the strike had been cancelled.
He said that the decision was made after the government showed willingness to consider the demands of the association.
Following the agreement, petrol pumps across the country have continued normal operations. Earlier, fuel dealers had warned of a nationwide strike against the daily fuel price revision policy.
The dispute began after the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) approved another increase in fuel prices.
Petrol prices rose by Rs4.40 per litre to Rs331.52 per litre. High speed diesel became Rs3.62 per litre more expensive. That took its price to Rs378.66 per litre.
The latest increase is the fourth consecutive daily rise in petroleum prices.
Islamabad seals petrol pump
Earlier today, a petrol pump in Islamabad’s I-9 sector was sealed after a citizen claimed that workers filled 61 litres of petrol into a car with a fuel tank capacity of only 50 litres.
According to reports, the citizen submitted a complaint to the Assistant Commissioner Industrial Area.
After receiving the complaint, a magistrate visited the petrol pump and inspected the site. Officials said the complaint was found to be correct during the inspection, after which action was taken against the filling station.
The administration sealed the petrol pump, arrested the manager, and imposed a fine for the alleged violation.
Officials said strict legal action would be taken against anyone found cheating customers or tampering with fuel measurement systems.
