Pakistan’s efforts to prepare for the second Test against the West Indies have taken a hit with former Test captain Shan Masood ruled out of the match due to a fractured finger and the squad is still grappling with a series of poor Test performances.
Sources said that Masood sustained the injury when he batted during the first innings of the opening Test against the West Indies and got hit on the finger.
He has been advised to take “complete rest” by doctors and has been ruled out of the second Test.
Sources further revealed that Masood will be undergoing a rehabilitation process and will be fit to bat in Pakistan’s next Test series against England soon.
The injury concern for Pakistan has come as the side is currently experiencing its worst-ever overseas Test run.

The team experienced its eighth successive Test defeat overseas after being bowled out in the first Test against West Indies and lost the match by 90 runs at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad.
The Pakistan cricket team suffered a string of defeats, starting in December 2023 during their tour to Australia, and across several international tours.
Pakistan has since won none of their away matches in Test cricket – losing to Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh and now the West Indies.
The loss has been their latest setback as they continue to struggle to adjust to the tough foreign conditions they are facing abroad.
Eight successive away Test defeats of Pakistan are:
- Perth, Australia (December 2023) – lost by 360 runs
- Melbourne, Australia (December 2023) – lost by 79 runs
- Sydney, Australia (January 2024) – lost by eight wickets
- Centurion, South Africa (December 2024) – lost by two wickets
- Cape Town, South Africa (January 2025) – lost by 10 wickets
- Dhaka, Bangladesh (May 2026) – lost by 104 runs
- Sylhet, Bangladesh (May 2026) – lost by 78 runs
- Trinidad, West Indies (July 2026) – lost by 90 runs
