As Eid-ul-Azha 2026 is coming closer, the Sindh government has announced early salaries and pensions for its employees and retired workers to help them before the festival, according to the reports on Sunday.
According to a notification issued by the provincial Finance Department, all Muslim employees working under the Sindh government will receive their May 2026 salaries on May 20. This is almost a week before Eid-ul-Azha 2026.
Retired government employees across the province will also get their pensions on the same date.
Because of this decision, provincial employees will receive two salary payments during May. They had already received their April salaries earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Eid-ul-Azha is likely to be observed on May 27 if the Zil-Hajj moon is sighted on May 17. If the moon is not sighted, Eid is expected to fall on May 28.
The final announcement about the moon sighting will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. The committee will meet on May 17 along with zonal committees across the country.
The Sindh government made this decision shortly after the federal government also announced early salaries for federal employees. Federal employees are also expected to receive their salaries on May 21.
Heavy fine imposed in Punjab
The Punjab government has imposed a fine of Rs50,000 on people found dumping animal waste during Eid-ul-Azha this year.
Special cleanliness plans have also been ordered for mosques, eidgahs, and cattle markets because these are the places where large crowds of people are expected during Eid.
Officials have been told to prepare a separate sanitation plan for every tehsil. They have also been asked to arrange extra staff and machinery. This is in order to make sure that waste is collected and removed on time during the Eid holidays.
Authorities have also been instructed to complete fitness checks of waste collection points and machinery before Eid.
