The Sindh government has approved the addition of 100 more electric buses to its public transport fleet, according to the reports today. The step has been taken as part of efforts to improve eco friendly transportation in the province.
The announcement was made by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. He also oversees the information, transport, and mass transit departments.
Speaking on the occasion of World Environment Day, Memon said that the new electric buses will improve travel facilities for citizens.
He added that it will also support the use of cleaner and more sustainable transport in Sindh.
He said environmental challenges are increasing and require responsible action. He added that the provincial government is working on projects that promote environmentally friendly development.
According to the minister, Sindh has already launched several green transport initiatives. These include electric buses and electric scooters that are expected to reduce the carbon emissions.
Memon also said that the measures are part of a wider plan to modernise public transport. In addition to reducing its impact on the environment.
He further added that the projects will provide safer and more comfortable travel for commuters while helping lower pollution and fuel consumption.
Sindh universities to go digital
In a significant step toward modernising higher education governance, the Sindh Higher Education Commission (SHEC) has announced a comprehensive digitalisation initiative that is expected to improve attendance monitoring, academic discipline, and administrative oversight in public universities across the province.
Under the plan, biometric attendance systems will be introduced for teachers, staff, and students in five major public universities.
The project will also include digital classroom monitoring and a centralised data integration system to streamline academic and administrative operations.
